Introduction
Why have a Climate Change Website?
The Scottish Executive is committed to raising awareness of climate change issues among Scottish school children of all ages and has developed, in partnership with Learning and Teaching Scotland, this interactive website.
The website focuses on 5-14 issues, and can be used as a tool to support implementation of the 5-14 guidelines.
What are the aims of the site?
Its aims are:
- To raise pupil awareness about some of the key issues surrounding climate change in Scotland
- the causes of climate change
- the effects of climate change
- the preventative measures to ease climate change
- To foster active citizenship amongst pupils
What age range and topics does the site cover?
The site is aimed at pupils aged 9-14 (Levels C-E: 5-14 National Guidelines for Scotland) and covers the following topics with special reference to Education for Citizenship and Sustainable Development:
- Energy
- Household
- Transport
- Biodiversity
What study methods does the site use?
Study can be carried out using the Climate Change website which contains:
- a wealth of background information for teachers/pupils to access
- interactive tasks, games and simulations
- links to other relevant sites
- a series of lesson plans on the topics listed above.
