Teachers' / Parents' area
Welcome to the Storybook website. The site is an addition to the popular Storybook TV video and Storybook CD series. The website provides fun, interactive activities based around key curriculum themes.
Who is the site for?
The site is primarily aimed at children in P1- P3, but some activities could be used with pre-school children too.
Educational Context
The site has been designed to complement the Scottish Curriculum Framework 3-5 and the 5-14 National Guidelines. Each activity has been designed to fulfil specific learning outcomes and the completion of activities could be used as a starting point for assessment and evaluation. All the activities can be used as a basis for extension activities. A grid with the learning outcomes for each activity can be viewed from here.
How the site works
The site is based around the eight illustrated storybooks which make up the Storybook TV video. When you open the storybook, you will be taken to a menu page with the eight stories listed. When you select a story, you will be taken to a page where you can choose either the Story or Activity option.
If you choose the Story option, you will be taken to a page where you can:
- watch a video clip or listen to an audio clip of the author reading the story
- watch video clips or listen to audio clips of the author answering some FAQs
- read a synopsis of that particular story.
If you select the Activity option you can complete an interactive activity based on a theme introduced in the book. Each activity consists of:
- an activity with two levels of gameplay
- a word bank activity, again with two levels of gameplay.
Help
The Storybook character will give instructions on how to play the game and provide help during the game.
Video
Please note, there is currently an issue with the video clips on the latest version of QuickTime Player and you may be incorrectly informed that you need to download the latest version of QuickTime. If this happens, you can follow the steps below to workaround this issue:-
- Open QuickTime Player.
- From the menu, select "Preferences" -> "QuickTime Preferences".
- On the "Streaming" tab, change the "Streaming Speed" from "Automatic" to an appropriate value based on your internet connection speed.
- Click "Ok" to close and save the change to your preferences.
You should now be able to view the Storybook video clips.
Downloadable Resources
You can download each of the games featured on the site and its associated word bank to your hard disk from this page.
Word bank
Each game has an accompanying word bank which uses vocabulary based on the theme of the game. You can create your own version of the word bank by downloading the file below.
